At least 10 immigration agents have been attacked this month by citizens who thwart their work.

This Sunday in Buenos Aires de Herrera the crowd drove them out with sticks and stones.

_Santo Domingo._ Several agents of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) have been physically and verbally attacked by citizens who impede the work of interdiction of foreigners that is carried out in different neighborhoods and municipalities of the Dominican Republic, under the protection of Law 285 – 04 of Migration.

  The most recent case occurred this Sunday in the Buenos Aires sector of Herrera in Santo Domingo Oeste, where three DGM collaborators were attacked by a mob that prevented the operation to interdict foreigners.

  Immigration agents Joan Manuel Bisono and Sandy Yan hit him with a bottle, while Marcos Ramírez Guzmán bit him several times for putting four foreigners in the DGM vehicle. The operation could not be carried out due to the attitude of the crowd in the presence of the Immigration agents.

   Last Thursday, August 8, in Villa Juana, two agents were attacked by a group of merchants and motorcyclists to prevent the arrest of several foreigners in irregular conditions in the Dominican Republic. These collaborators are recovering in one of the health centers of the National District. In Santo Domingo Este, last Sunday, August 3, in El Almirante, its residents took a similar action and affected two more members of the DGM.

   In the Amalia sector of the El Sendero residential area, a mob of Haitians and Dominicans, on Monday the 5th, upon noticing the presence of the DGM vehicles, began throwing stones, sticks and other objects, attacking not only one of the Immigration officers but also the only foreigner interdicted at the site; both were taken to the Darío Contreras Hospital. In Friusa, Higüey, La Altagracia province, a foreigner hit one of the soldiers who participated in the interdiction operation in the head with a hammer and also attacked a DGM agent who was leading the operation; both are recovering at home.

   The head of the General Directorate of Migration, Venancio Alcántara, reiterates that the interdiction operations will continue in accordance with Law 285 – 04, its implementing regulations Decree 631 – 11, respect for human rights and international standards of which the Dominican Republic is a signatory.
