Authorities and sectors of Dajabón seek to strengthen immigration control and binational market activity
Cita de departamento de comunicaciones en enero 17, 2025, 8:03 amDAJABÓN.- A commission headed by the provincial governor, Severina Gil Carreras, and the Director General of Migration (DGM), Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester (ARD), met with various sectors involved in the binational market here with the objective of analyzing and addressing concerns related to migration control, ease of access to the binational market and security in the border area.
The head of the DGM told the press that at the meeting, held in the main hall of the Government, strategies were discussed to improve the flow of transactions of goods and services, strengthen security and optimize migration management.
He explained that these issues are of great interest to President Luis Abinader and that he is receiving the full support of the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, ERD, to implement effective solutions that contribute to the economic development of the region.
Explaining the meeting, Vice Admiral Lee Ballester told reporters that the commissioners and community representatives proposed developing a joint assessment, with the corresponding diagnosis and planning, on the measures to be adopted.
“We reaffirmed, along with the participants, the DGM’s commitment to work in a coordinated manner with local institutions to implement effective solutions that guarantee migration control. We also supported the initiative to draft a consensual document that establishes clear measures and the distribution of roles that correspond to the institutions involved,” said the official and high-ranking military officer.
At the end of the meeting, which was described as positive, the commissioners and part of the community members proceeded to supervise the area of the binational market. In addition to Vice Admiral Lee Ballester and Governor Gil Carreras, General José Rodríguez Coste, ERD, director of the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security (CESFRONT), Deputy Tony Bengoa, the director of the Border Development Directorate, Ramón Ernesto Pérez Tejada, and Mayor Santiago Riverón participated.
Also present were the Coordinator of Formulation of the Directorate of Development Policies for the Border Zone of the Ministry of Planning, Economy and Development, Roberto Verrier; the Director of Internal Trade of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Octavio Landolfi; the Director of Markets of the Ministry of Planning and Development, Erick Dorrejo, and Ángel Alberto Encarnación Amador, Deputy Director of Operations of the General Directorate of Customs.
On the community side, there were businessmen, traders from the binational market and producers from the region, who were in favour of implementing measures that favour development, that have an impact on strengthening national security and that benefit the country.
