Authorities intervene in the protected area "Salto de la Tinaja"; they arrest illegal Haitians who were building in the natural monument.

SENPA, DGM and MIMARENA

SANTIAGO.- The National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA), the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MIMARENA) launched a unified and far-reaching operation here to halt illegal occupation and protect the integrity of the “Salto de la Tinaja” natural monument.

As a result of the official intervention in this protected area, 28 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status were arrested for illegal construction, affecting the conservation of nature, biodiversity, and the region's natural landscapes. The offenders were transferred to the DGM's detention center for undocumented immigrants in Santiago for the corresponding legal proceedings.

The operational deployment covered the Los Higos, La Búcara, El Níspero, and El Aguacate sectors, located within the boundaries of the protected area. It was led by representatives of SENPA (National Enforcement Agency) and coordinated by immigration agents and a technical commission from MIMARENA assigned to this province.

Through this action, the institutions involved strictly comply with environmental regulations, acting firmly to protect ecosystems, flora and fauna, as well as relevant landscape and cultural features.

The authorities affirmed that they will continue to implement strategic operations to ensure sustainable development and legal security in these areas, which are essential to the country's environmental balance.
