DGM and UNHCR hold collaborative meeting
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Director General of Migration, Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, ARD, and representatives in the country from the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) held a collaborative meeting in which they reviewed asylum application procedures.
The head of the agency that controls and regulates the entry, stay, and exit of people within the national territory highlighted the importance of the meeting and reported that it was a courtesy visit. During the visit, the parties reiterated their commitment to maintaining mutual relations protected by the legal framework in force in the Dominican Republic, the norms of international law, and the international conventions signed and ratified by the Dominican State.
The meeting was attended by Pablo Vizcaíno, head of the UNHCR national office, and Mirya Porcheddu and Teresa Vázquez, protection officers for that agency. Also present were Rear Admiral Juan Gilberto Núñez Abreu, ARD, Director of Immigration Control; Laura Maríñez Espinal, Legal Director; and Colonel Manuel A. Carrasco Guerrero, ERD, National Coordinator of Interdiction for the DGM.
