DGM arrests 1,344 illegal Haitians in operations deployed across the country.

SANTO DOMINGO - The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,344 Haitian nationals in irregular immigration status during control operations carried out yesterday in different sectors of the country.

The operations carried out by interdiction agents took place in Greater Santo Domingo, where 169 people were detained; in Santiago de los Caballeros, 113; La Vega, 36; Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, 34; the East Zone, 146; Azua, 17; Barahona, 27; and Puerto Plata, 52. In these operations, the DGM also had the coordination of the Dominican Republic Army, which apprehended 490 undocumented foreigners; the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security (CESFronT), which detained 189; and the National Police, which detained another 71 illegal immigrants.

In addition to these institutions, the operations also include the collaboration of the Dominican Republic Navy, the Air Force, the Public Ministry, the Ciudad Tranquila Task Force (Ciutran), and the General Directorate of Land Transit (DIGESETT).

In a press release, the DGM stated that the interdiction sessions are in accordance with the country's laws, ensuring that all foreigners are properly documented and registered. It also added that they were carried out respecting human rights, human dignity, and in compliance with the norms of international law and current democratic procedural law.

The agency regulating migration flows also deported 792 Haitians yesterday. They were handed over to Haitian authorities at the border crossings of Dajabón (295 people), Elías Piña (207), Jimaní (184), and Pedernales (106). All came from the immigrant reception centers established by the DGM in Haina, Benerito (Higuey), Santiago, and in the border area, where they were registered and validated using biometric systems and processed according to established protocols.
