EL SEIBO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) arrested 333 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status during control operations carried out today in this municipality and in the vicinity of the communities of Verón, Bávaro and Friusa, in Higuey.

The operations were carried out by DGM agents, with the collaboration of members of the National Army, the Dominican Republic Navy, the Air Force, the National Police, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Ciudad Tranquila Task Force (Ciutran).

In a press release, the agency responsible for immigration control and enforcement of Law 285-04, which regulates the stay of foreigners in the country, reported that the detainees were transferred to the immigration interdiction center located in Benedito, in this province, and to the Haina immigrant reception center, in San Cristóbal.

At these sites, they will be registered and validated using biometrics, screened according to established protocols and then returned to their country of origin.

In this area, including Miches, 154 people (110 men and 44 women) were arrested, while in the communities of Higuey 179 were arrested, all men.

The DGM stated that the interdiction operations were carried out in compliance with human rights, the dignity of immigrants and in compliance with the norms of international law and current democratic procedural law.

He added that the measures are in line with the country's laws so that all foreigners are properly documented and registered.

The agency reiterates that it will continue to comply with the law, its implementing decree, the mandate of the Defense and Security Council of the Republic and the guidelines of President Luis Abinader.
