DGM detains 1,096 illegal immigrants

SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration's interdiction units detained 1,096 Haitians in irregular status yesterday during operations at various locations across the country.

The interdictions were carried out in Greater Santo Domingo (199 people), Santiago de los Caballeros (22), La Vega (156), Mao/Santiago Rodríguez (54), Azua (37), Barahona (05), Puerto Plata (30) and Montecristi (21). In addition to this number of detainees, 397 were arrested by members of the Dominican Republic Army; 169 were carried out by CESFRONT and 06 by agents of the National Police.

In accordance with the immigration policies established in Law 285-04, ensuring that all foreigners are properly documented and registered, the DGM teams carried out their operations with respect for the human rights, ethics, and dignity of all individuals at risk of detention. These individuals were taken to the DGM's illegal alien detention centers, where they were registered and evaluated according to established protocols.

The Dominican Navy, the Air Force, Ciutran, Digesett, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and other agencies linked to state security also participated in the interdiction proceedings, in coordination with the DGM.

The DGM also yesterday repatriated 450 Haitian nationals who had been detained for lacking documentation and handed them over to the authorities of their country through the binational border points of Dajabón (235 people), Elías Piña (125), Pedernales (68) and Jimaní (22).

With these actions, the agency regulating migration flows reaffirms its commitment to order, security, stability, and the well-being of its citizens, based on a fair and sustainable environment.
