DGM detains 1,339 illegal Haitian nationals and repatriates another 1,322 to control immigration.
Cita de departamento de comunicaciones en abril 11, 2025, 1:00 pmSANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) yesterday detained 1,339 undocumented Haitians and repatriated another 1,322 through the various binational border gates, in actions to control illegal immigration and strengthen public order.
The arrests are the result of interdictions deployed in Greater Santo Domingo (143), Santiago (42), La Vega (55), the Eastern region (159), Azua (18), Barahona (49), Montecristi (10) and Puerto Plata (46). In addition to these apprehensions, 610 were made by members of the Dominican Republic Army, 188 by members of the Specialized Border Security Corps and 19 by agents of the National Police.
Foreigners detained during immigration control operations are transferred to the DGM's detention centers in Haina, Benerito, Santiago, and the border area, where their biometric data, fingerprints, photographs, and names are taken.
These processes are carried out with respect for human rights and human dignity, in compliance with fundamental values, and with all the guarantees of national and international law.
In addition to the ERD, Cesfront, and the PN, interdiction operations are also coordinated with the Ministry of Defense, the Dominican Republic Navy (ARD), the Dominican Republic Air Force (FARD), the Ciudad Tranquila Joint Task Force Military Unit (CIUTRAN), and DIGESSETT.
Authorities have emphasized that they will continue to carry out similar operations throughout the country, ensuring that the actions are carried out in an orderly and efficient manner and with the goal of ensuring strict compliance with the General Immigration Law and protecting the rights of all citizens.
