DGM detains 1,398 and repatriates 1,210 illegal immigrants
Cita de departamento de comunicaciones en abril 30, 2025, 8:50 amSANTO DOMINGO.- Facing the challenge that illegal immigration represents for the country, interdiction agents from the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) yesterday detained 1,398 undocumented Haitian nationals and deported another 1,210 people.
The actions correspond to the official agency's efforts in Greater Santo Domingo, where 154 illegal immigrants were apprehended; 138 were detained in Santiago de los Caballeros, 19 in La Vega, 88 in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez; 110 in the East Zone, 16 in Azua, 18 in Barahona, 21 in Puerto Plata, and 7 in Montecristi.
The DGM, within the framework of the coordination established with state security agencies, also reports that the Dominican Army detained 584 Haitians with illegal status, the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security detained 206, and the National Police detained another 37 individuals. The Navy, Air Force, Public Prosecutor's Office, Ciutran, and Digesett, among other institutions, are also collaborating in the operations.
Regarding the deportees, 730 were handed over to their country's authorities at the Elías Piña border crossing; 225 were handed over at Dajabón, 148 at Pedernales, and 107 at Jimaní.
Operations to locate and deport undocumented foreigners are implemented with respect for the rights, dignity, and safety of those interdicted, regardless of nationality. There is also differentiated and humanitarian assistance for women, particularly pregnant women, the elderly, and minors. The latter are also assisted by CONANI and are only repatriated if accompanied by adult relatives.
