DGM detains 26 undocumented Haitians who entered the country in three vehicles

Santo Domingo._ The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 26 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status, caught while they were being transported in vehicles on roads in Baní, Peravia, and Guanito, Elías Piña, respectively.

The interceptions were made by members of Immigration Control, who acted in coordination with National Army personnel stationed at the Guanito Checkpoint, where 16 undocumented immigrants were detained, and with the support of National Police agents deployed in Baní, where 10 illegal foreigners were intercepted.

The arrest was made in accordance with the interdiction protocols established by the DGM, respecting human rights and the dignity of people, complying with national laws and values ​​and with all the guarantees of national and international law.

The detention in Guanito occurred at 1 a.m. when a group of 16 undocumented Haitian nationals were traveling in a jeep; shortly after, in the same place, another seven foreigners were detained while being transported in a minibus, whose driver fled. Both vehicles were taken to the Army Fortress in Elías Piña to undergo legal proceedings.

In the case of Baní, 10 undocumented immigrants were arrested when the authorities seized a jeep in which they were being transported. The group and the driver were sent to the interagency base of Los Pilones for the appropriate purposes.

The institution responsible for exercising control over migratory flows and managing the stay of foreigners in Dominican territory confirmed in a press release that those detained will be registered and validated using biometrics, screened according to established rules and then returned to their country of origin.

The DGM also reiterated that it will continue to strictly comply with Law 285-04, its implementing decree, the mandate of the Defense and Security Council of the Republic and the guidelines of President Luis Abinader.
