DGM files 102 cases in court for illegal trafficking of undocumented foreigners

The files were submitted between October 2024 and May 2025. In the months of January and September of last year, only one case, filed by the DGM, reached the courts. The number of undocumented foreigners involved totals 686.
Of the 144 defendants, the judges ordered pretrial detention for 14; financial security and periodic reporting for 42; travel ban for 20; and periodic reporting only for 32. Coercive measures are pending for 36.
The DGM's legal director, Laura Mariñez, explained that the main criminal offenses listed in the submissions are 80 counts of illegal trafficking of immigrants; 9 counts of document forgery; and 3 counts of extortion and fraud.
In Peravia province, 19 cases have been filed; 12 in Independencia; 10 in Barahona; 9 in Santo Domingo Este; 8 in Jimaní; 6 in La Altagracia; 5 in Bahoruco; 4 in San Juan de la Maguana and Azua; 3 in Pedernales, Santo Domingo Este, and La Vega; 2 in Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo Oeste; and one each in Montecristi, Santiago, San Francisco, and San Pedro de Macorís.
