DGM has deported irregular immigrants to 12 countries on 4 continents this year

SANTO DOMINGO.- So far in 2025, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) has deported illegal immigrants to 12 countries on four continents, with Haiti being the most affected due to its neighboring status and the massive emigration it suffers from due to the sociopolitical and economic problems affecting it.

DGM statistics indicate that in these first five months of the year, 143,251 irregular immigrants have been returned from the country, which added to another 58,641 Haitian nationals who have voluntarily returned to their place of origin, gives a grand total of 201,892 undocumented foreigners who have left Dominican soil so far in 2025.

Those deported by country are citizens of the United States (9), Colombia (3), Mexico (2), China (1), Hong Kong (1), Ukraine (1), Nigeria (1), Puerto Rico (1), Cuba (1), Nicaragua (1), Jamaica (1) and Haiti (143,251). They were on Dominican soil without the necessary documentation.

In total, those deported after having been identified and purged according to the established protocols are 66,680 people, the highest number ever reached in the same period, since the General Migration Law No. 285-04 was proclaimed on August 15, 2004. To that number are added another 76,571 illegal immigrants returned directly from the places where they were apprehended,

Deportations have intensified since President Luis Abinader and the Security and Defense Council announced a plan last October to reduce the excess of irregular immigrant population. This plan is being implemented under strict protocols that ensure respect for the human rights and dignity of those repatriated.
