DGM interdiction operations leave 1,295 detained and 1,162 deported

SANTO DOMINGO – The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), during operations carried out within the framework of its responsibilities, yesterday apprehended 1,295 Haitian nationals without legal documentation, who were traveling through different parts of the country.

The official institution also reported that 1,162 undocumented immigrants were repatriated after being processed, having their biometric data and fingerprints taken, and having their identity cleared at the detention centers established by the DGM for the exercise of migration governance.

The deported Haitian nationals were handed over to the authorities of their country of origin at the border points of Dajabón (274), Elías Piña (709), Jimaní (99) and Pedernales (80).

Regarding those arrested, 146 were detained in operations deployed in Greater Santo Domingo, 103 in Santiago, 2 in La Vega, 37 in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, 86 in the eastern zone, 10 in Azua, 9 in Barahona, 54 in Puerto Plata, and 28 in Montecristi. Also included are 538 detainees by National Army personnel, 224 by the Cesfront (Center for the Defense of the Front), and 58 by the National Police. The Dominican Navy, the Air Force, the Public Ministry, and Digesett (Digest of the Dominican Republic), among other state security agencies, also participate in the coordination of these actions against illegal immigration.

The DGM stated that the operations are carried out in strict compliance with Law 285-04 and with respect for human rights and dignity.

He also warned that he will continue to comply with government directives and the mandate of the National Defense and Security Council to preserve a safe and fair immigration environment that contributes to the well-being of the population and safeguards national security and sovereignty.
