SANTO DOMINGO - The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) supported the voluntary repatriation of 114 Haitian nationals in irregular immigration status, who yesterday decided to return to their country of origin.
The official agency also announced that it is providing assistance safely and respectfully, so that all undocumented foreigners who are in the country and voluntarily wish to return home can do so without concern.
Of the 114 people who returned, free of coercion, 89 left through the binational gate of Dajabón, coming from Santo Domingo (71), La Vega (15) and Santiago (3), and 25 did so through the Pedernales border crossing.
The DGM stated that this support is in line with President Luis Abinader's initiative urging Haitian nationals in an irregular situation to leave the country. It indicates that anyone wishing to return to their home country simply needs to contact the DGM confirming their decision to repatriate.
To begin the process, interested parties can call the institution's call center at (809) 508-2555, extension 0, and express their desire. They can also call the toll-free number 311 and request to speak to the DGM, or write to the website www.311.gob.do expressing their intention.
The DGM specified that the support it is offering for the voluntary return of foreigners in an irregular situation is independent of the control measures implemented in strict compliance with Law 285-04, which establishes a safe and orderly immigration policy to safeguard national order and sovereignty.
The DGM also warned that it will continue to comply with the directives of President Luis Abinader and the mandate of the nation's Defense and Security Council to safeguard national security and sovereignty.
