Cita de departamento de comunicaciones en mayo 7, 2025, 7:43 amSANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) announced that it will impose economic sanctions on commercial establishments where the hiring of illegally migratory foreign citizens has been proven, as part of exemplary measures aimed at eradicating this practice in the country.
Through its Legal Department, the agency explained that these penalties will be applied in accordance with the provisions of article 132 of the General Migration Law No. 285-04, which sanctions with fines of between five (5) and thirty (30) minimum wages of the public sector to those who hire or facilitate employment to foreign persons who are not legally authorized to work in the country.
The amount of the fine will be determined based on the number of undocumented workers detected in each establishment inspected.
The DGM recalled that, last weekend, several stores and shopping malls were raided in Greater Santo Domingo, where 92 Haitian citizens with irregular immigration status were arrested. The agency announced that these operations will continue nationwide, in response to the multiple reports of the indiscriminate use of irregular foreign labor, which leads to disrespect for labor rights, tax evasion, and violations of the current legal framework.
These actions are part of the institution's strategic plan to combat informal immigration, human trafficking, and other practices that compromise public order and national security.
The operations are carried out in coordination with various state entities, including the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Defense, the Army, Navy, and Air Force, among other agencies.
