Santo Domingo, RD.- The General Director of Migration Venancio Alcántara, said that he will analyze in all its dimensions the Comprehensive Law project on Trafficking in Persons, Extortion and Illicit Smuggling of Migrants, under study by the Interior and Police commission in Congress National.
When approached by journalists during a floral offering at the Altar de la Patria, the official said that he requested a copy of the initiative in order to carefully study the scope and aspects that have to do especially with the protection of foreign victims of human trafficking. people, to be able to formulate a concrete opinion regarding the initiative.
He specified that up to now the debates on the bill are taking place in the National Congress, especially in the Senate, where the Permanent Commission on the Interior and the Police and Citizen Security has already read some 75 articles of the 95 contained in the piece. .
The head of Migration, Venancio Alcántara, said that he could not publicly deepen an opinion or position regarding this, since they are aspects under the criteria of assumptions, since not even the Congressmen have analyzed the bill under study in all its parts.
The legislative initiative introduced in the Upper House on December 12, 2022 seeks to prevent, prosecute and eradicate the crime of trafficking in persons in its different modalities, slavery and its analogous practices, any form of exploitation, as well as migrant smuggling.
In addition, it aims to protect the rights, and provide care and protection to victims of human trafficking in all its forms.
