Immigration authorities detain 1,382 illegal immigrants and repatriate 796 through border crossings.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The interdiction units of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) and the security forces that support them in their efforts to reduce the presence of illegal immigrants in the country yesterday detained 1,382 Haitian nationals, and another 796 were repatriated to their homeland.

Those arrested, in compliance with the regulations of Law 285-04 that orders and regulates migratory flows in the national territory, correspond to Greater Santo Domingo (167), Santiago de los Caballeros (93), La Vega (116), Mao / Santiago Rodríguez (78), East Zone (102), Azua (20), Barahona (33), Puerto Plata (62) and Montecristi (17). To them are added 564 detained by the Dominican Republic Army, 79 by CESFRONT and 54 by the National Police.

Interdiction work is also carried out in coordination with the Navy, the Air Force, the Ciutran (National Commission for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities), the Digesett (Digest of Persons with Disabilities), and the Public Prosecutor's Office. The operation is always carried out with respect for human rights, the safety of detainees, and all the guarantees of national and international law.

Those deported yesterday, 796 in total, were handed over to their country's authorities through the binational border gates of Dajabón (145), Elías Piña (427), Jimaní (148), and another 76 through Pedernales. They came from the undocumented detention centers that the DGM has set up in different districts, where they were processed for identification and cleared in accordance with the law.

In a press release, the DGM explained the importance of its operations to contain, deter, and control irregular migration to the Dominican Republic, ensuring that all citizens, regardless of nationality, are properly documented and registered, an important requirement for safeguarding national security and sovereignty.
