Immigration inspectors recover shotgun that Haitians took from a park ranger

Inspectors from the General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) recovered a shotgun that irregular Haitians took from a park ranger who was in an operation of the National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA) for environmental control and surveillance in the Los Haitises National Park.

The foreigners snatched the 12-gauge Maverick brand weapon from the park ranger Gabriel Antonio Payano, who in turn was injured by the Haitians who ambushed him in the place when the agricultural work they were carrying out in the protected area that is prohibited in 64 – 00 of environment and natural resources.

The operation was carried out this Friday with members of the Dominican Republic Army and they returned this Saturday to Los Haitises to recover the firearm and together with the immigration inspectors, who also accompanied the park rangers, members of the National Environmental Protection Service to interdict to Haitians who are irregular in the area.

So far, 20 foreigners have been interdicted, to whom the process established by the regulations of the Dominican Republic will be applied.

The General Director of Migration, Venancio Alcántara reiterates that the inspectors' operations are carried out in accordance with law 285-04 on migration, with respect for human rights and without violating the rights of foreigners.

Immigration inspectors carry out their interdiction tasks in collaboration with members of the Armed Forces and the National Police.
