Immigration units detain 1,422 undocumented immigrants; another 869 Haitians deported in irregular status

SANTO DOMINGO.- The immigration units of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,422 Haitian citizens with irregular immigration status and repatriated another 869, as a result of interdiction operations carried out yesterday in different parts of the country.

The operations, with the objective of preserving migratory order, peaceful coexistence and safeguarding national sovereignty, were carried out in Greater Santo Domingo, where 269 people were apprehended, in Santiago de los Caballeros (132), La Vega (128), Mao/Santiago Rodríguez (48), Zona Este (48). Azua (17), Barahona (28), Puerto Plata (36) and Montecristi (03).

Also reported are arrests carried out directly by members of the Dominican Republic Army (587), CESFRONT (84) and the National Police (42), institutions with which the DGM coordinates the work, as well as with the Ministry of Defense, the Navy, the Air Force, the Public Ministry, Ciutran, Digesett and other State security agencies.

Regarding repatriations, the DGM handed over 228 people to Haitian immigration authorities through the Dajabón binational gate, 460 through the Elías Piña gate, 118 through Jimaní, and 63 through Pedernales. These undocumented immigrants came from the detention centers for irregular immigrants in Haina, Benerito, Santiago, and the border crossings where the institution registers and clears them, in accordance with the corresponding legal procedures.

The DGM also reported that the interdictions are being carried out respecting the dignity of the detainees, adhering to fundamental values, and with all the guarantees of national and international law. It indicated that it will continue to comply with the law, its implementing decree, the mandate of the National Security and Defense Council, and the directives of President Luis Abinader.
The DGM emphasizes the importance of safeguarding national security and sovereignty, ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their origin, are properly documented and registered.
