SANTO DOMINGO.- In compliance with the provisions of General Migration Law 285-04 and its Implementing Regulation No. 631-11, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) continued its interdiction strategy today with a series of operations in different provinces of the country, where it detained 1,358 Haitian nationals in irregular immigration status.

Of these, 616 were deported to their country of origin through the border points located in Dajabón (253 people), Elías Piña (176), Jimaní (158) and Pedernales (29), where they were handed over to the Haitian immigration authorities, in accordance with established protocols and adherence to human rights protection standards.

The immigration interdictions were supported by the Ministry of Defense, the Dominican Republic Army, the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security (CESFronT), and the National Police.

The most significant arrests of undocumented immigrants were made in Greater Santo Domingo (200), Santiago de los Caballeros (236), La Vega (21), Mao/Santiago Rodríguez (36), Azua (09), Barahona (20), and Puerto Plata (68). The Army arrested 591 illegal Haitians, the Cesfront 155, and the Police 22.
