Migration deports 4,603 undocumented foreigners in the last eight days

June 09, 2023

Santo Domingo, RD.- In the last eight days, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 4,603 foreigners who were illegally in the Dominican Republic, who were processed and repatriated to their countries of origin.

Among those detained from Tuesday, May 30 to June 6, 2023, there are 4,601 Haitian nationals, one American and one Pole, who were repatriated to their respective nations after the corresponding procedure was exhausted.

The immigration interdiction operations were carried out in the provinces of Barahona, Dajabón, Elías Piña and Azua, as well as in La Altagracia, Santiago, La Vega, Puerto Plata, La Romana, Santiago Rodríguez, San Pedro de Macorís, the Great Saint Sunday, among other parts of the country.

During the interventions, the detainees did not carry any type of document that accredited them to transit in the Dominican Republic, so they were taken to the detention and transfer centers of the institution.

The General Directorate of Migration carries out the interdiction work with the collaboration of the Dominican Navy, Air Force and National Police, actions that will continue to be implemented throughout the national territory simultaneously, to counteract the irregular migratory flow, according to statements by the head of the body. Venancio Alcántara specified that they are carried out in strict compliance and adherence to Law 285-04, within the framework of the immigration policies promoted by the Dominican government, always respecting human rights.
