Migration detains, repatriates and deports some 23,545 thousand illegal aliens in the month of January 2023

Santo Domingo, RD.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), reported that through
the interdiction operations that are carried out continuously throughout the country, during
In the month of January, at least 23,545 thousand foreigners have been arrested, repatriated and deported
illegal, mostly Haitian.

He specified that through the actions deployed in the provinces of Azua, San Juan,
Barahona, Pedernales, Dajabon and Elías Piña, dozens of foreigners have been detained in
irregular migratory conditions, who when they were searched did not carry any type of
Documents that accredit you as a person in transit in the country.

Likewise, the institution informed through a press release that the operations have been
developed in Santiago, Puerto Plata, La Vega, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana and
Bavaro-Punta Cana; also in Benerito and Los Pilones, in order to counteract the flow
irregular migratory throughout the national geography.

The head of Migration, Venancio Alcántara, specified that these actions continue
progressive and simultaneous throughout the country, in compliance with Law 285-04 that governs the matter,
within the framework of the immigration policies promoted by the government of President Luis Abinader.
He recalled that during immigration operations a security protocol is implemented,
preservation of the integrity of the person and respect for human rights, in addition to the
transfer and driving procedure for subsequent deportation, under the strict
supervision of a Migration Interdiction Team.

The operations are rigorously supervised by Colonel Emiliano de los Santos, of the
Dominican Republic Army, who is in charge of the Interdiction Department
at the national level.
