Migration, Supérate and UNICEF propose to create assistance program for repatriated Dominicans
During a meeting, the heads of the institutions discussed the reintegration of these compatriots into the workforce.
The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), the social program Supérate and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), announced that they are working on the creation of an assistance plan for the labor reinsertion of repatriated Dominicans, especially from the United States.
During an inter-institutional meeting, Gloria Reyes, director of Supérate; Carlos Carrera, representative of Unicef in the Dominican Republic; and Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, director of the DGM, discussed the implementation of a program that provides social and psychological support and assistance in obtaining identity documents, with the aim of facilitating the reintegration of repatriated persons into society in a dignified manner.
They also discussed the possibility of relocating families who may be deported, although they clarified that, so far, no such cases have been recorded in the country.
"We will do everything necessary to support individuals and their families in their relocation process. Although we have not had similar cases in the country, we are prepared to offer effective solutions," the representatives of the institutions said.
They also highlighted the formation of an inter-institutional team that will work to improve the social and economic conditions of Dominicans returning to the country.
"Many of our compatriots, even if they have lived abroad illegally, are hard-working, honest and upright people, with the potential to be productively reintegrated into their own country," they said.
