Talk given to DGM staff

SANTO DOMINGO.- A talk on "Attention and Appropriate Terms for Referring to People with Disabilities" was given to employees of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) to raise awareness and educate them on the importance of using appropriate and respectful language.

The presentation was led by Yenny De los Santos, Disability Coordinator for the Ministry of Youth's Execution and Supervision Directorate, who explained the international principles and regulations regarding the appropriate treatment of persons with disabilities.

He emphasized that, according to the United Nations International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the correct term for people with physical conditions is "Persons with Disabilities" (PWD) or "Persons in a Situation of Disability."

The activity was organized by the Human Resources Directorate, under the coordination of Colonel Belkis Asiático Almonte, PN, and aimed to foster an environment of respect and inclusion at the DGM.

This initiative reflects the institution's commitment to the ongoing training of its staff on human rights and diversity issues.
