The DGM detains 1,274 undocumented immigrants detained in nationwide operations.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The interdiction units of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,274 Haitian nationals in an irregular situation, as a result of operations carried out yesterday in the country, as part of a stricter immigration policy against those who do not comply with Dominican regulations.

The arrests took place in Greater Santo Domingo (216 people), Santiago de los Caballeros (77), La Vega (59), Mao/Santiago Rodríguez (31), the East Zone (136), and Barahona (33). The arrests also included 477 foreigners apprehended by the Dominican Republic Army, 142 by the Specialized Border Security Corps, and 96 by National Police officers. The operations are also being coordinated with members of the Navy, Air Force, the Ciudad Tranquila Task Force (CIUTRAN) military unit, Digesett, and other security agencies.

These interdictions are carried out in strict compliance with current democratic procedural law, respecting the integrity, fundamental values, and dignity of the detainees.

Yesterday's actions at the DGM also included the deportation of 1,000 Haitian nationals, of whom 341 were handed over to Haitian immigration authorities at the Dajabón checkpoint, 475 at the Elías Piña checkpoint, 136 at the Jimaní checkpoint, and 48 at the Pedernales checkpoint.

Repatriation transfers are carried out under appropriate mobility conditions. Foreigners lacking the required documentation are first taken to the DGM detention centers, where they undergo a validation process using biometrics, fingerprinting, photography, and vetting in accordance with legal requirements.

The DGM emphasized the importance of preserving and strengthening territorial security and sovereignty through strategic actions to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their origin, are properly documented and registered.
