The DGM detains 1,535 Haitian nationals in irregular immigration status and repatriates another 1,173.
Cita de departamento de comunicaciones en mayo 12, 2025, 7:53 amSANTO DOMINGO – The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported that, as part of its regular immigration control operations, 1,535 Haitian citizens with irregular immigration status were detained during interventions carried out at various points throughout the country.
The interdiction operations were carried out in Greater Santo Domingo (190 detainees), Santiago de los Caballeros (80), La Vega (30), Mao/Santiago Rodríguez (33), East Zone (68), Azua (103), Barahona (28), Puerto Plata (31) and Montecristi (7).
Additionally, the Dominican Republic Army has reported detaining 646 foreigners, 235 by the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security (CESFRONT), and 84 by the National Police, in coordination with the DGM.
The detainees were transferred to the institution's reception centers, where they underwent the corresponding procedures, including biometric verification, fingerprinting, and individual vetting in accordance with current regulations, ensuring respect for their dignity and fundamental rights at all times.
In parallel, the DGM carried out the repatriation of 1,173 Haitian citizens, through the official border crossings of Elías Piña (683), Dajabón (253), Pedernales (129) and Jimaní (108), in coordination with the immigration authorities of the neighboring country.
These actions were supported by the Dominican Navy, the Air Force, the Public Ministry, DIGESETT, CUITRAN, among others.
The General Directorate of Migration reiterated its commitment to complying with Law 285-04 on Migration, ensuring that all actions were carried out within the national legal framework and in compliance with international agreements signed by the Dominican State on human rights.
