The DGM launches a plan to recover, restore, protect, and digitize files and documents.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), as part of its modernization and transparency program, has launched a work plan for the recovery, restoration, organization, and digitization of its archives and documents, to ensure their protection and availability when needed.

The measure was ordered by the head of the DGM, Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, after holding a technical meeting with executives from the National Archives, in which they exchanged ideas and addressed strategic issues related to the project's execution. The AGN stated that it will collaborate with all processes involving the work.

The senior military officer and official emphasized the importance of recovering and preserving institutional information in a secure and accessible manner, not only in the present but also for long-term use and compliance with laws and regulations.

He stated that this step represents a significant advance for the efficiency and security of information on immigration issues, as it also facilitates transparency in auditing processes and accountability.

"This initiative at the DGM sets a precedent in the Dominican State's document management, promoting efficiency through inter-institutional collaboration and the use of cutting-edge technologies. In this way, we ensure the preservation of historical information, preventing the loss or deterioration of important documents," he emphasized.

Lee Ballester was accompanied by his assistant, Frigate Captain Esteban González (ARD); the Director of Technology, Nathanael Minaya; the Legal Director, Laura Mariñez; the Archives Officer, Sergeant Pamela Durán De Pool (ERD); and other collaborators.

The National Archives' representatives included Ricardo Soriano, head of Technology; Ángel Manuel Hernández, head of the National Archives System and Inspection Department; Orquídea Correa, head of the Description Department; and Awilda Encarnación, archival technician.

As part of the visit, the delegations toured various areas of the AGN, including the Data Center, the disinfection and restoration area, and the spaces dedicated to document digitization, among others.
