The DGM maintains its intensity in interdictions, arresting 1,338 illegal immigrants and deporting another 950.

SANTO DOMINGO.- As a result of interdiction operations, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) yesterday detained 1,338 Haitian nationals without documents justifying their presence in the country and deported another 950 to their places of origin.

The immigration control units arrested 184 people in Greater Santo Domingo; Santiago de los Caballeros, 99; La Vega, 49; Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, 130; the East Zone, 109; Azua, 13; Barahona, 41; Puerto Plata, 03; and Montecristi, 26.

As a result of inter-institutional coordination, the Dominican Army also added 575 detained by the Dominican Republic Army, 109 by the Specialized Corps of Land Border Security, and 3 by the National Police. The Ministry of Defense, the Dominican Navy, the Air Force, the Ciudad Tranquila Task Force (CIUTRAN), the Digesett (Digest of the Dominican Republic), and the Public Prosecutor's Office, among other security agencies, are also participating in the efforts.

The following were repatriated through the binational border gates: 623 through Elías Piña, 163 through Dajabón, 95 through Jimaní, and 69 through Pedernales. They came from the DGM's detention centers for irregular migrants in Haina, Benerito, Santiago, and the designated border crossings. They were handed over to the authorities of the neighboring nation after being registered and processed.

The DGM reiterated that interdiction efforts are being carried out with a focus on respect for the dignity of detainees, adhering to fundamental values ​​and with all the guarantees of national and international law. It also indicated that it will continue to implement and strengthen operations to locate, detain, and deport illegal immigrants so that all those transiting through the country are properly documented, as established by Law 285-04 and its implementing regulations, given the importance of preserving order, security, and national sovereignty.
