DGM CALLS AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL REPORT ABUSIVE.

The General Director of Immigration, Venancio Alcántara, described as abusive the Amnesty International report that states that there are violations in the deportations carried out on foreigners who are in an irregular condition in the Dominican Republic.

Mr. Alcántara specified that the interdiction processes are carried out in accordance with the provisions of Law 285 – 04, with respect for human rights and in accordance with international standards to which the Dominican Republic is a signatory.

As President Abinader said, Immigration will continue with the deportation and repatriation of illegal foreigners in accordance with what is established by the law that governs the matter, respecting human rights, with due process and international agreements to which the Dominican Republic is a signatory.

The DGM rejects all types of interference in national immigration policy and that no foreign institution interferes in the actions of the State in accordance with what is established by the Constitution, Dominican laws and international conventions.

Venancio Alcántara pointed out that the institution he directs is the only body with the quality to apply this law, no other national or foreign institution.
