DGM detains 1,404 Haitian nationals and deports another 1,132 for illegal status
Cita de departamento de comunicaciones en abril 11, 2025, 8:14 amSANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) apprehended 1,404 Haitian nationals without legal documentation who were traveling through different parts of the country during operations carried out as part of migration management.
The agency responsible for controlling the entry, residence, and exit of foreigners in the country also reported that 1,132 undocumented immigrants were repatriated yesterday after being processed, having their biometric data and fingerprints taken at the detention centers established by the DGM for the exercise of migration governance.
The deported Haitian nationals were handed over to the authorities of their country of origin at the border points of Dajabón (179), Elías Piña (777), Jimaní (99) and Pedernales (77).
Regarding those arrested, 179 were detained in operations deployed in Greater Santo Domingo, 64 in Santiago, 50 in La Vega, 305 in the eastern zone, 10 in Barahona, 53 in Puerto Plata, and 42 in Montecristi. Also included are 545 detainees by National Army personnel, 130 by the Cesfront (Center for the Defense of the Front), and 26 by the National Police. The Dominican Navy, the Air Force, the Public Ministry, and Digesett (Digest) are also involved in the coordination of these actions against illegal immigration.
The DGM stated that the operations are carried out in strict compliance with Law 285-04 and with respect for human rights and dignity.
The DGM also warned that it will continue to comply with the directives of President Luis Abinader and the mandate of the National Defense and Security Council to preserve a safe and fair immigration environment and to safeguard national security and sovereignty through safe and orderly work that contributes to the well-being of the population.
