In continuing its efforts to reduce the presence of illegal aliens in the country, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) deported 15,500 in the first 15 days of November and also had success in pursuing human trafficking networks that have turned this activity into a lucrative business.
Since October 1, when the mass repatriation plan began, 55,723 people have been deported in actions carried out by immigration inspectors and with the collaboration of the Armed Forces and the National Police.
Since October 1st, people have been arrested transporting foreigners in an irregular condition in Dominican territory, and with the collaboration of the Public Prosecutor's Office, more than 30 have been brought before the courts of justice, which have dictated coercive measures.
The DGM also reported that it will continue the meetings initiated with different productive sectors to evaluate their needs for foreign labor and define possible solutions, always following the provisions of the general migration law.
“The immigration authorities and the units of the Armed Forces and the National Police that support their activities to reduce the presence of foreigners in irregular status in the country are always acting in a manner that respects the integrity and human rights of those detained,” the DGM stated.
