Cita de departamento de comunicaciones en abril 3, 2025, 9:43 amBávaro, La Altagracia.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 111 Haitian nationals in irregular immigration status, 95 men and 16 women, during interdiction operations carried out in the Friusa and Verón areas of this tourist destination.
With this action against undocumented immigrants in that area, the number of operations carried out in the area since last October rises to 130. During that time, 9,405 foreigners have been detained and repatriated, the vast majority of whom were Haitians without documents proving their presence in Dominican territory.
According to DGM statistics, 28 operations were carried out in this area last October, resulting in the arrest of 2,310 undocumented immigrants; in November, there were 25 operations and 1,846 arrests; in December, 19 operations and 1,101 arrests; in January 2025, there were 21 operations and 1,512 arrests; in February, 20 operations and 1,430 arrests; in March, 16 operations and 1,095 arrests; and on April 2nd, the first operation of the month was carried out, with the aforementioned results.
All detainees have been transferred to the Benerito detention center in this province, where, prior to deportation to their country of origin, they are processed in accordance with the legal framework and with respect for their fundamental rights and dignity, especially those of women, pregnant women, the elderly, children, and adolescents.
The DGM warned that it will maintain its comprehensive immigration policy, in accordance with the provisions of Law 285-04, the mandate of the National Defense and Security Council, and the directives of President Luis Abinader.
He also emphasized the importance of safeguarding national security and sovereignty through safe and orderly work that contributes to the well-being of the population, and management that promotes a safe and fair immigration environment.
