The DGM detains 1,143 Haitians and repatriates another 1,180 illegally residing in Haiti.

SANTO DOMINGO.- Interdiction teams from the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,143 undocumented Haitians in operations carried out yesterday in different parts of the country.

Immigration control measures also included the deportation of 1,180 illegal immigrants, who were taken to the border area and handed over to their country's authorities.

Those arrested in the DGM operations were 116 in Greater Santo Domingo, 75 in Santiago de los Caballeros, 9 in La Vega, 40 in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, 7 in the East Zone, 15 in Azua, 31 in Barahona and 48 in Montecristi.

In addition to these numbers, there are 606 detained by Dominican Army personnel, 170 by the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security, and 26 by the National Police. These institutions work in coordination with the DGM (General Directorate of General Administration of the General ...

The repatriations were: 740 through the Elías Piña binational gate, 254 through Dajabón, 119 through Jimaní, and 67 through Pedernales. These foreigners came from the DGM's Immigration Detention Centers in Haina, Benerito, Santiago, and at border crossings, where their biometric data and fingerprints are taken, they are screened, and then deported.

The implementation of immigration control measures is being carried out in compliance with President Luis Abinader's mandate to address the risks that illegal immigration poses to the security, stability, and well-being of the Dominican people.
