The DGM increases immigration raids in the country; it detains 1,198 and repatriates 678 Haitian nationals.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) yesterday detained 1,198 Haitian nationals without legal documentation and repatriated another 678 in the same circumstances, during the action plan carried out by the interdiction units within a comprehensive strategy to strengthen security and order in the flow of foreigners.

The raids, intensified across the country, but especially in areas where the presence of illegal immigration has been reported, took place yesterday in Greater Santo Domingo, where 160 illegal immigrants were arrested; in Santiago, 110; in the eastern zone, 88; in Puerto Plata, 69; in La Vega, 32; in Barahona, 21; and in Azua, 15.

These arrests are in addition to 535 made by Dominican Army personnel in the border provinces that are part of the area of ​​responsibility of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Brigades; 145 by the Specialized Border Security Corps arrested near the Pedernales, Jimaní, Elías Piña, and Dajabón border crossings; and 23 by the National Police. The DGM is also acting in coordination with the Ministry of Defense, the Dominican Navy, the Air Force, the Public Prosecutor's Office, Digesett, the Ciudad Tranquila Task Force, and other security agencies.

All those apprehended were treated with formalities that ensure respect for human rights and dignity, and transferred to the detention centers available to the DGM for identification, vetting, and subsequent repatriation, always ensuring the physical and moral integrity of those deported.

Of yesterday's group, 383 were handed over to Haitian immigration authorities through the Elías Piña binational gate, 162 through Dajabón, 71 through Pedernales, and 62 through Jimaní.

Interdiction operations are carried out based on a predetermined protocol that defines the route, schedule, and assignment of team members. In their actions, immigration agents have also dismantled networks dedicated to migrant smuggling and arrested document forgers and identity theft.
