Today marks the 206th anniversary of the birth of Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, leader and political strategist of the Dominican war.
Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, belonged to a family committed to the fight for freedom. A member of “La Trinitaria”, a separatist secret society, in 1844 he led an uprising against Haiti and on February 27 of that year he proclaimed the independence of the Dominican Republic.
