Santo Domingo. – So far this year, agents of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) have arrested 166 people who have attempted to travel with false passports and irregular visas through different airports in the Dominican Republic.
In addition, 101 other people are being investigated for suspicion of having false documents, who have been detained at air terminals in an attempt to leave the country fraudulently.
Inspectors and intelligence agents from the Immigration Office have also prevented Haitians from leaving the country who, with false documents and visas, try to travel to another country. In July, they arrested 91 people who tried to travel to Panama and Ecuador through Las Americas International Airport.
These foreigners were brought before the courts for violating Immigration General Regulation 285 – 04 and its implementing regulations, Decree 613 – 11, and some were given conditional release.
Director General Venancio Alcántara reiterates that in his role he will continue to enforce the Constitution and immigration laws, respecting human rights and adhering to ethics and transparency, as is the strategic line of President Luis Abinader.
