Camino Perez and Lee Ballester toured Elias Piña and Dajabon
Elías Piña. – The General Commander of the Army, Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez ( ERD ) and the General Director of Migration, Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester ( ARD ) traveled this Tuesday to the border provinces of Elías Piña and Dajabón to verify the work carried out by both institutions in border security and control, as well as the handling of deportations to Haiti.
Both officials held a meeting with the governors of Dajabón and Elías Piña, Severina Gil and Migdalys de los Santos, and representatives of the International Organization for Migration ( IOM ), the United Nations Refugee Agency ( UNHCR ) and the United Nations Children’s Fund ( UNICEF ) also participated.
While addressing the troops, both the Army commander and the director of Immigration highlighted the work carried out in recent weeks in joint operations to interdict immigration and against other threats to national security.
As part of these operations, more than 20 people have been brought to justice for trafficking in undocumented persons and more than 28,000 foreigners with irregular immigration status have been repatriated, according to statements by Camino Pérez and Lee Ballester.
In addition, during his visit to the border provinces, military uniforms were delivered as part of the supplies necessary to motivate the troops to continue such an important mission for national sovereignty.
The director of the Specialized Border Security Corps ( CESFRONT ), General José Rodríguez Coste ( ERD ), and other military authorities were also present on the tour. Traders and businessmen from the area also participated in another meeting.
