Hoyo de Friusa, Bávaro.- Since early Friday morning, Dominican authorities have intensified operations to detain irregular immigrants, primarily Haitians, in the Mata Mosquito and El Hoyo de Friusa sectors of Altagracia province.
The deployment was led by Vice Admiral Lee Ballester, Director General of Immigration, who, along with his brigades, worked in coordination with members of the National Army, the National Police, and members of the elite CIUTRAN force, totaling more than 100 agents in the operation.
So far, authorities have reported at least 150 people detained for deportation purposes for not carrying valid documents proving their legal status in the country.
The event focused on areas identified as having a high concentration of illegal immigrants, such as Mata Mosquito, El Hoyo de Friusa, Villa Playwood, Kosovo, and Haiti Chiquito. In these areas, Immigration and Security teams carried out targeted interventions, supported by intelligence and prior surveillance, which allowed for greater effectiveness in locating illegal immigrants.
The operation also marks a turning point in state control of areas like Mata Mosquito, historically considered difficult for authorities to access due to their population density, lack of urban planning, and reputation for insecurity. The massive presence of law enforcement and immigration personnel shatters that perception and reaffirms the state’s interest in regaining control of these areas.
Authorities have indicated that these operations will continue as part of a sustained strategy to ensure compliance with immigration laws, while strengthening security in highly vulnerable areas. The government has reiterated that these actions respond not only to a border control policy, but also to the need to preserve public order and protect the local labor market.
