SANTO DOMINGO.- Interdiction teams from the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,129 undocumented Haitians in operations carried out yesterday in different parts of the country.
Immigration control measures also included the deportation of 838 illegal immigrants, who were taken to the border area and handed over to their country’s authorities.
Those arrested in the DGM operations were 128 in Greater Santo Domingo, 65 in Santiago de los Caballeros, 76 in La Vega, 169 in the East Zone, 13 in Azua, 58 in Barahona, 17 in Puerto Plata and 35 in Montecristi.
In addition to these figures, 442 were captured by members of the Dominican Republic Army, 105 by the Specialized Border Security Corps, and 21 by the National Police. These institutions work in coordination with the DGM (General Directorate of General Administration of the Dominican Republic), as well as other official agencies such as the Navy, the Air Force, the Ciutran (National Commission for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities), the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Digesett (Digest).
The repatriations were: 521 through the Elías Piña binational gate, 181 through Dajabón, 85 through Jimaní, and 51 through Pedernales. These foreigners came from the DGM’s Immigration Detention Centers in Haina, Benerito, Santiago, and at border crossings, where their biometric data and fingerprints are taken, they are screened, and then deported.
The implementation of immigration control measures is being carried out in compliance with President Luis Abinader’s mandate to address the risks that illegal immigration poses to the security, stability, and well-being of the Dominican people.
The DGM acts respectfully, respecting human rights and human dignity, within the Dominican legal framework, and in accordance with international standards signed by the Dominican Republic.
