SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) dismantled a travel organization center for undocumented Haitian nationals that was operated by a Dominican family in the Los Cayucos sector of Pedernales.
The agency responsible for controlling migration flows in the country reported that the discovery and eviction of the human trafficking site was carried out during an operation by its interdiction agents, who acted in conjunction with the head prosecutor of the border province, Delbio Heredia.
The heads of the illegal center, Alonso Matos Medrán and Yolanda Matos Medrano, were arrested at the site, as well as fourteen (14) Haitians in an irregular condition, of which eleven (11) are men and three (3) women.
The Dominicans involved in the crime were handed over to the National Police for the corresponding purposes, while the undocumented Haitian nationals were detained for deportation.
The DGM reaffirmed that it will be inflexible in the application of Law 285-04 and Regulation No. 631-11, to regulate immigration and immigration control at Dominican borders, but that it will not allow unscrupulous people to abuse the dignity and rights of foreign citizens.
“All our actions are carried out under strict protocols that guarantee respect and humanity,” the note says.
