SANTO DOMINGO – The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) has deported more than 180,000 Haitians found in irregular immigration status during interdiction operations carried out in the last six months, since the government implemented the expanded plan to contain the flow of foreigners.
Coinciding with the administration of Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, ARD, at the helm of the institution, deportations from October 1st to March 31st reached a total of 180,417 people, as part of the comprehensive strategy deployed by the DGM to strengthen security and order in the migratory flow.
In October, 40,223 Haitian nationals were repatriated; in November, 28,703; in December, 25,085; in January, 31,213; and in February, 26,659.
The record number of repatriations in six months was reached with the 28,534 Haitians detained during March for their irregular immigration status. Last year (2024), 276,215 undocumented Haitians were repatriated, and for 2025, the cumulative total as of March 31 stands at 86,406.
Before their deportation, all those processed were registered and validated using biometric equipment, cleaned according to established protocols, and individually evaluated, with each person’s profile detailed.
The interdictions were carried out in Greater Santo Domingo, La Romana, La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Azua, Santiago Rodríguez, Moca, Duarte Province, Loma de Cabrera, Dajabón, Valverde, Monte Cristi, Barahona, Peravia Province, Montecristi, La Vega and Santiago de los Caballeros, and were carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Defense, the National Army, the Dominican Navy, the Dominican Air Force, the National Police, the Public Ministry, Digesett, Ciudad Tranquila Task Force and other government entities.
The DGM stated that the interdiction operations were carried out respecting human rights and the dignity of immigrants, and in compliance with the norms of international law and current democratic procedural law. It added that the measures are in line with established immigration policies, ensuring that all foreigners are properly documented and registered.
He also reiterated that he will continue to comply with the law, the mandate of the Defense and Security Council of the Republic, and the directives of President Luis Abinader, all within a comprehensive approach to ensure that repatriation and border control processes are carried out fairly, equitably, and without discrimination.
