SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) strengthened its immigration control operations this Friday by inspecting various commercial establishments operated by foreigners in the National District, with the goal of verifying the immigration status of the workers there.

As a result of these actions, 92 Haitian nationals who were found to be illegal immigrants were detained. The detainees were transferred to the Haina Detention Center for Undocumented Foreigners, where they underwent registration and clearance as required by General Immigration Law No. 285-04.

The operations included raids on stores and shopping malls located on Duarte Avenue and República de Colombia Avenue, areas where complaints had been received about the presence of foreigners without valid documentation, exceeding the legal percentage of employees of other nationalities, and other violations of the current legal framework.

The DGM reiterated its commitment to law enforcement and warned that it will continue to carry out immigration interdiction operations throughout the country, as part of its efforts to combat informality, migrant smuggling, and other practices that threaten public order, the well-being of the population, and national security.
