SANTO DOMINGO.- The interdiction units of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,203 undocumented Haitians and repatriated another 978, as part of immigration control operations being carried out throughout the country.
The interdiction days, carried out in compliance with the precepts of Law 285-04, which regulates the matter, and its implementing regulations, as well as with full respect for human rights and human dignity, took place in Greater Santo Domingo, where 133 foreigners were apprehended; in Santiago de los Caballeros, 94; and in La Vega, 42.
Also, 64 in Mao/Valverde, 80 in the Eastern Zone, 12 in Azua, 25 in Barahona, 61 in Puerto Plata, and 57 in Montecristi. In addition, 538 were detained by the Dominican Army, 89 by the Cesfront, and 8 by the National Police. These agencies carry out their operations in coordination with the DGM, as do the Dominican Navy, the Air Force, Ciutran, Digesett, and the Public Ministry, among others.
Coming from the detention centers for foreigners in an irregular situation that the DGM has installed in Haina, Benerito, Santiago and at the border points, the 978 deportees were handed over to the Haitian immigration authorities by Elías Piña (614), Dajabón (143), Jimaní (126) and Pedernales (95).
These actions by the DGM are part of the national security and immigration order strategies promoted by President Luis Abinader to decisively and fairly address the risks that illegal immigration poses to the security, stability, and well-being of Dominicans.
