SANTO DOMINGO.– The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,373 Haitian citizens with irregular immigration status during interdiction operations carried out yesterday in various parts of the country, including hospitals, border areas, and key provinces, as part of the strengthening of immigration controls.
The operations were deployed in Greater Santo Domingo (278), Santiago de los Caballeros (7), La Vega (7), Mao/Santiago Rodríguez (164), Zona Este (63), Azua (Los Pilones) (9), Barahona (16), Puerto Plata (45) and Montecristi (6). These actions were deployed in accordance with national and international regulations, guaranteeing respect, protection and the rights of people, especially minors, pregnant women and the elderly.
Yesterday, arrests were also reported by the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security (CESFRONT), with 114 people and 664 by the Dominican Republic Army (ERD). These institutions act in coordination with the DGM (General Directorate of General Security), as well as other security agencies such as the ARD (Argentine National Guard), the FARD (Fairground Forces of the Dominican Republic), Ciutran (Ciudad de la República), Digesett (Digest), the Public Prosecutor’s Office (Public Prosecutor’s Office), and the National Police, among others.
Regarding repatriations, 943 people in irregular migratory status were handed over to the Haitian authorities, through the border points of Dajabón (304), Elías Piña (471), Jimaní (95) and Pedernales (73), after being registered, processed and purged in the detention centers for undocumented foreigners available to the DGM.
The DGM reiterated that it carries out migration management in a coordinated, transparent manner aligned with human rights and the dignity of individuals, while strengthening national sovereignty.
