SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) has launched a call for young people interested in becoming immigration interdiction agents, urging them to apply to be evaluated and join the management of a modern institution committed to respecting the law, human rights, and the defense of national sovereignty.

The official agency reported that it has 400 positions available, distributed across 19 provinces, and that those who meet the requirements, both male and female, will be trained in different areas of institutional work to form a generation prepared to act fairly, respectfully, and within the law when they are on the streets carrying out interdiction operations.

The positions offered correspond to: 40 in the province of La Altagracia and 20 in each of the following districts: Bahoruco, Barahona, Dajabón, Duarte, El Seibo, Elías Piña, Espaillat, Hato Mayor, Hermanas Mirabal, Independencia, La Vega, Montecristi, Pedernales, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez and Valverde.

The requirements are: physical fitness, age 18 to 30, height 5’9″ or taller for men and 5’7″ or taller for women, Dominican nationality, high school diploma, medical and good conduct certificates, a letter of reference, and a resume. Those who apply and meet the requirements will work in their respective home provinces.

The training will be held in Santo Domingo, endorsed by the University of the Caribbean, and involves comprehensive instruction that includes knowledge of the regulations governing the DGM, operational protocols, human rights (with an emphasis on respect and dignified treatment of pregnant women, the elderly, and the protection of children and adolescents), field instruction, self-defense, handling of non-lethal weapons, and first aid, among other subjects.

This preparation seeks to ensure that each interdiction operation is based on the application of Law 285-04 and is carried out in accordance with the national security and immigration order strategies promoted by President Luis Abinader.

The incorporation of these new agents, who will join the other 160 recently graduated officers incorporated into the DGM’s operations, aims to consolidate a coordinated, transparent, and human rights-aligned migration management system, while strengthening national sovereignty.
