Six Dominicans and one Haitian are also brought to justice for trafficking in undocumented persons
SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) has returned 14,633 Haitian nationals in irregular immigration status to their country so far this year 2025, an average that exceeds 975 people per day, the result of 101 interdiction operations deployed in the country.
The agency in charge of regulating the migratory flow and the stay of foreigners in the national territory stated, in a press release, that these actions are part of the expanded plan to interdict and contain foreigners who circulate without complying with the legal requirements, which was announced by President Luis Abinader Corona at the beginning of last October, to reduce the excess migrant population perceived in Dominican communities.
The DGM reports that, of those returned to Haiti, 7,854 were deported, that is,
Duly processed and purified in the control centers established in Haina Santiago and Dajabón.
These locations follow procedures that include taking fingerprints, photographs and names.
Furthermore, it is verified whether they are repeat offenders and the number of times they have been taken to their country of origin.
The other 6,779 repatriated persons were people who voluntarily decided to return to their country or were detained in the border area and returned and handed over directly to the Haitian authorities.
The DGM note also says that through actions in the provinces of Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago, Pedernales, Jimaní, Elías Piña, Dajabón, La Altagracia, La Vega and Azua, six (06) Dominican citizens dedicated to trafficking Haitian nationals into the national territory and one (01) Haitian national dedicated to the same tasks were arrested and brought to justice.
Immigration control operations are carried out in compliance with the provisions of Law 285-04 and under strict national protocols and international standards that guarantee respect for human rights and the dignity of repatriated persons.
The operations are also carried out in coordination with members of the Army, the Air Force, the Dominican Republic Navy, the National Police, the Ciudad Tranquila Task Force (CIUTRAN) military unit and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
