SANTO DOMINGO, – In 2024, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) repatriated 276,215 foreigners with irregular immigration status to their country of origin without the approval required by law for their presence in the Dominican Republic.
In the January-March quarter, 48,344 were sent to their country of origin; in the April-June quarter, 62,446 were repatriated; in the third quarter, July-September, 71,414; and in the last quarter, October-December, 94,223; in the first quarter, 17.5%; in the second, 22.6%; in the third, 25.8%; and in the fourth and last quarter, 34.1%.
The DGM assured that this interdiction and repatriation of foreigners with irregular immigration status is carried out respecting the human rights of those interdicted and the international agreements to which the country is a signatory, following the policy and guidelines of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader.
The management of the entity responsible for migration issues announced that in the last quarter of 2024, a thorough review of the organization and procedures of the DGM was carried out in order to implement an update plan, the objective of which is to enable it to fulfill the mission assigned to it by the Constitution and the law.
He stressed that in 2025, in addition to the reorganization of the DGM, collaboration will be strengthened with the Ministries of Defense, Labor, Foreign Affairs, Interior and Police, Agriculture, the National Council for Children, the Central Electoral Board and international organizations with representation linked to migration issues.
The INCIDENT IN BANI
Regarding the incident that occurred in Bani, in which it was reported that a Haitian citizen assaulted a person and caused damage to the municipal museum of that city, the DGM reported that the National Police report on that case indicates that the person involved in the incident is Carlos and Yohan Cruz Ramón, a Dominican citizen with identification card number 003-0118687-0, resident in the Santa Rosa sector of the city of Bani, who was arrested and brought to justice.
