SANTO DOMINGO.- Immigration inspectors processed 7.5 million identification documents of people who arrived or left the country and passed through ports, airports, and border access points during the period January-April 2025, reported the General Directorate of Immigration (DGM).
Of these, 3,678,709 people entered through the document checkpoints and 3,901,420 people left, most of them at Punta Cana International Airport and José Francisco Peña Gómez Las Américas International Airport.
DGM personnel processed 2.1 million passengers at Punta Cana International Airport, the country with the highest passenger traffic, arriving and departing, for a total of 4,305,759 people.
Las Américas International Airport followed in terms of workload, with 859,888 arriving passengers and 922,233 departing, for a total of more than 1.7 million passengers.
Third in terms of traffic volume was Gregorio Luperón International Airport (Puerto Plata), which processed travel documents for 425,740 people: 350,749 departing and 396,205 arriving. It was followed by Cibao International Airport, which handled 350,749 arrivals and 396,205 departures, for a total of 746,954.
The DGM’s fifth-largest airport was the La Romana terminal, which received 61,112 passengers and departed 69,893, for a total of 130,565. Presidente Juan Bosch Airport in Samaná received 24,126 passengers and dispatched 26,280, for a total of 50,406. La Isabela saw 19,701 passengers arrive and depart, and San Isidro Air Base saw 269 passengers arrive and depart (this is not an airport that handles scheduled flights).
A total of 19,075 people entered the country through the access points on the border with Haiti, and 13,467 left, for a total of 32,552. In May, 22,149 people passed through the Dajabón crossing, of which 12,675 entered and 9,474 left. 6,213 people passed through Elías Piña; 1,275 people passed through Jimaní; and 2,05 people passed through Pedernales.
A total of 42,185 people entered the port and 43,887 left, for a total of 86,172. The busiest port was La Romana, which received 26,583 and dispatched 24,123. The Don Diego terminal in Santo Domingo followed with 6,933 people, including those who entered and departed.
