SANTO DOMINGO.- With the support of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), 565 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status voluntarily returned to their country yesterday through various binational land border gates.

The foreigners, 159 men, 214 women, and 192 minors, arrived at the border areas in buses that were said to be provided by their national government. They were escorted by DGM units and National Army personnel so their biometric data could be taken and then left until they were received by Haitian immigration authorities.

Four buses arrived at the Dajabón binational gate, carrying 68 men, 99 women, and 90 minors. A delegation from the Haitian consulate, headed by Consul Ricort Almonord, was also present.

In Pedernales, five buses arrived with 87 men, 102 women, and 96 minors, while in Elías Piña, a bus arrived with four men, 13 women, and six minors. They were supervised by the Haitian Consul in Barahona, Ms. Carline Gustaman.

Throughout the proceedings, the DGM guaranteed them physical and legal security, as well as respect for their dignity.

The Dominican agency responsible for controlling the flow of irregular migrants affirmed that the support offered to irregular foreigners who voluntarily wish to return to their country of origin is independent of the immigration control measures implemented in compliance with Law 285-04, which establishes an orderly policy to safeguard national order and sovereignty.

He also warned that he will continue implementing the strategic plan to interdict irregular immigrants and carry out deportations, complying with the directives of President Luis Abinader and the leadership of the nation’s Defense and Security Council, to safeguard national sovereignty .
