DGM units detain 1,083 and deport 450 undocumented foreigners caught in the country.

SANTO DOMINGO.- Yesterday, the interdiction units of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,083 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status who were traveling within the country, while another 450 were deported to their country of origin.

The DGM representatives carried out operations in Villa Mella, Villa Faro, and areas along the Duarte Highway, among other locations in Greater Santo Domingo, where they apprehended 52 undocumented immigrants. They also arrested 57 in Santiago de los Caballeros, 17 in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, 6 in the East Zone, 6 in Azua, 160 in Dajabón, 177 in Elías Piña, 18 in Jimaní, 29 in Montecristi, and 31 in Pedernales.

These efforts were carried out in compliance with all the regulations of Law 285-04, which governs the matter, and ensuring the integrity and fair, humane, respectful, and dignified treatment of each of the interdicted individuals, especially those who may be classified as vulnerable.

In addition to those arrested, there are 398 reported by the National Army and 132 by the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security, as a result of coordinated efforts with the DGM. Other state security agencies, such as the Navy, Air Force, Police, Ciutran, Digesett, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, among others, are also participating in the operations.

Regarding those deported, 224 were deported through the Dajabón binational gate; 177 through the Elías Piña gate; 18 through Jimaní; and 31 through Pedernales. After being registered and their identification processed, they were handed over to their country’s immigration authorities through a process that complies with the precepts of national law and international conventions signed by the Dominican government.
